Annual Key Initiatives 2008
Annual Theme:  "Seeking God's Plan"

Dear Friend of Faith,

We begin each year by trying to answer the questions "Why are we here, Where are we going, and How do you fit in?"  We believe wise stewardship involves careful planning.

The initiatives below are the product of many men and women working hard to identify key opportunities for your church family this year.  I would encourage you to keep this document where you have your personal Bible study and prayer time.  Please review it often and ask God to help us serve Him well together.

Pastor Viars

Growing Stronger

1.  Study key topics in our Sunday morning services related to knowing and doing God’s will.

2.  Offer various ABF series that compliment our Sunday morning series.

3.  Develop a more systematic approach to our current men’s ministries, including offering Men of Faith on the third Saturday morning of each month to learn biblical principles about how to be an effective man, husband, father, worker, and leader.

4.  Place concentrated effort on motivating the church family to deepen their relationships and commitment to one another.

Reaching Out

1. Train and deploy new leadership for our Project Jerusalem ministry to those moving into our neighborhood.

2. Deploy and oversee new leaders for the Project Jerusalem ministry with the goal of being more faithful and effective at contacting those who move in around us than ever before.

3. Continue to cultivate our international partnership with ministry leaders in Moldova by participating in the third pastors’ training conference in Chiesnow, Moldova.

4.  Explore a new international partnership with ministry leaders in Brazil.

5. Offer a spring outreach series in our Sunday morning worship services entitled “Learning to Handle Suffering” and a fall outreach series entitled “Learning the Art of Forgiveness”.

Serving Together

1.  Establish a Strategic Planning Committee and work together as a church family to seek God’s will for our next 5 year strategic ministry plan.

2. Continue to develop and utilize our Human Resources Coordinator position.

3. Place more emphasis on deacons and ABF team leaders acquainting people in their sphere of ministry oversight with current serving opportunities.

4. Explore ways to better utilize technology to communicate about service needs church wide.

5. Intentionally link younger persons in our church family with those who are older or who have served longer with the goal of making meaningful ministry transitions.

6. Continue to develop a spirit of “service excellence” ministry wide.

Meeting Needs

1. Successfully launch Vision of Hope, a faith based residential treatment program for at risk girls struggling with unplanned pregnancies, drug/alcohol abuse, eating disorders, and self-harm.

2. Explore the possibility of working with a local developer to build a senior living community on or contiguous to our campus.

3. Develop additional ways to use the community center in a mission driven fashion.

4. Improve oversight and relationship-building at the skate park, the Loft, family fun nights, first Friday, and other community center programs to accomplish the mission for which the community center was built.

5. Offer excellent indoor and outdoor sports opportunities for people of all ages with the desire to get to know our neighbors better.

6. Lead youth ministry workers to pursue the goal of getting to know every young person in the neighborhoods east of  I-65 and create a “neighborhood parish” view of all youth ministries.

7. Continue to work with Food Pantry/Clothing Closet workers to develop our ministry to neighbors in need.

Strengthening Others

1. Offer an expanded 2008 Biblical Counseling Training Conference to utilize new teaching spaces in Community Center.

2. Launch new MA in Biblical Counseling degree program.

3. Consider offering one On the Road training program in Biblical Counseling.

4.  Design a plan for staff members to begin writing ministries.
