A SPIRITUAL EMPHASIS

By Emily Wetzel

A week after Spiritual Emphasis Week in January, the high school students at FCS were challenged by a follow-up chapel, which was requested by some of the students who were really impacted by the Spiritual Emphasis Week special speaker.   The chapel was led mainly by the students.  Many teens got up in front of fellow teens and shared their testimonies and how God worked and is working in their lives.  Many other students accepted Christ and others re-dedicated their lives to Him.

Many students said that this was a very meaningful time in their lives.  It was a wonderful way to follow-up Spiritual Emphasis Week. One student said that the special speaker challenged her to think about what it really means to be Christian and not just “say the prayer.” Another student said, “I spoke to the other students about how I have decided to stop my habitual sin and go crawling back to God.  Because why wouldn’t you crawl back to a Father who not only loves you but is so big he could wipe you out with a single thought?”

Praise God that FCS is able to hold such events that truly make an eternal difference in the lives of its students.

JEANS FOR A CAUSE

By Emily Wetzel

During the last two weeks of February and the whole month of March, students will be allowed to wear jeans every Friday… for a small fee of $2.00… and all of the proceeds will be given to organizations such as the Red Cross and will help causes such as relief in Haiti. The proceeds from January 26th will benefit World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine. What a great way to enjoy wearing blue jeans...and to help people at the same time!

HALFWAY THERE

By Tyler Borgman

The Eagles have moved one step closer to their ultimate goal of winning the state tournament. On Tuesday night, Our Faith Christian guys beat Heritage Christian, on Heritage’s home court, 69-61. This was by far the best performance of the year for the Eagles who were led with 17 points from both Stephen Toyra and Tyler Borgman Tuesday night. Ultimately, the key to the victory was the balanced production from the entire team.  Ryan Bargfeldt added nine more points, hitting six consecutive free-throws in the fourth quarter.  Aaron Wright added ten points and two big free throws to finish out the game. The team jumped out to an early lead Tuesday night, but Heritage came storming back. As each team headed into their respective locker rooms, Heritage had the lead by four. The boys showed no sign of giving up, scoring five unanswered points to start the second half, reclaiming the lead, and gaining momentum.  “The 3rd quarter was definitely the deciding fact of the game,” Senior Tyler Borgman said. “We never looked back from there and continuously made all the right plays at all the right times.” Every time Heritage Christian made a run, the Eagles would make a big shot, get a stop on defense, or hit key free-throws sealing the deal. The team shot 24 for 32 from the line and 46 percent from the field. The total team effort, combined with an unmatched intensity, proved to be too much for the defenders as the Eagles clinched the Northwest Regional Championship Tuesday night.

LESSONS LEARNED IN PERU

By Emily Wetzel

I have been learning a lot of lessons in Peru. I have been hearing a lot of things, seeing a lot of things, and doing a lot of things. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is how fortunate I am.

I live in a nice house in a nice town. I have a nice family who owns two nice cars. We eat good food and drink clean water. We take nice vacations in the summer. And on top of that, we go to a wonderful school.

My family has been visiting a home in Lima every Tuesday since we came here. The girls who live there are teenagers with babies, the result of rape and sexual abuse. What I have is

so much more than most of them have! Many grew up in broken homes with broken families. They can’t go on vacations or drive a nice car or go to a Christian school. So where does that leave me, who has all of those things?

The Bible says of those who have been given much, much is required. I have been learning that I need to use my abundant resources to do nothing but help others. And so far, it has been so rewarding. It’s changed my life around and made me rethink what I want for my life. Now I know that everything I can accomplish should work toward the goal of glorifying God through helping others.
